To help protect student accounts and personal information, ASU Prep has updated password requirements for students in grades 4–12.


What Changed?

Beginning July 1, 2026, students in grades 4–12 are required to use passwords that are at least 12 characters long. All student passwords will be reset on this day to implement this change.


Why Is This Important?

Longer passwords provide stronger protection for student accounts and help keep learning resources and personal information secure. Security experts recommend longer passwords because they are significantly more difficult to guess or crack.


What Should Students Expect?

Students will be prompted to change it when signing in to school systems. 


Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new password that meets the current requirements. We also encourage you to review your student’s password recovery settings when you login next, this will ensure that you have the option to do instant password resets in the future. This support article can help with Password Recovery.


Password Requirements

Student passwords must:

  • Be at least 12 characters long

  • Be unique and not used for other accounts

  • Be kept private and not shared with others


Tips for Creating a Strong Password

We encourage students to use a passphrase instead of a password. A passphrase is a short sentence or combination of words that is easy to remember but difficult for others to guess.


Examples include:

  • MyFavoriteColorIsBlue!

  • SoccerPracticeAfterSchool1

  • ReadingBooksMakesMeHappy!


Using a combination of letters, numbers, and punctuation can make passwords even stronger.


Frequently Asked Questions


What if my student forgets their password?

  • Try to use the ‘Help I forgot my Password’ link on student.asuprep.org to access Password Recovery for an instant password reset.

  • Reach out to your Learning Success Coach (LSC) or a teacher you are taking a class from. They will be able to do a quicker password reset for you. 

  • Reach out to IT Support at [email protected] for a reset. Please be aware that IT resets are not instant.


Does my student need to change their password immediately?

Students who are prompted to update their password should complete the process as soon as possible to maintain access to school systems and resources.

 

If your student isn’t enrolled in courses currently, you can wait until they go back to school.


What about new students?

New students will get their credentials sent directly closer to their enrollment start date and will use the new more secure passphrase standards from the start.
